Vanessa Bell is an award winning poet, performer, artist and literary activist from Quebec City whose work has been showcased across Quebec and Europe.  She creates work in which a multitude of women’s voices are heard alongside a strong focus on the natural world.

During this event, Vanessa Bell will discuss her latest collection, Monuments, inspired by her travels to Newfoundland and her connection to nature and music of the area. She will read poems from the collection in French. English translations will be provided.

Her debut collection of poetry, De rivières, was published in 2019 and she is the co-editor of the Anthology of Contemporary Poetry by Women in Quebec. She won the 2021 Félix-Antoine-Savard Prize and is the first francophone Canadian to be supported by the Writers’ Trust of Canada’s Rising Stars program (2022).

Vanessa Bell  is participating at Nottingham Poetry Festival as part of her tour to Ireland and UK during May and June 2025.

Nottingham Women’s Centre is fully not accessible and the library is on the top floor.

Nottingham City of Literature are holding a further event on Friday 13th June at Nottingham Central Library which is fully accessible and open to all. The event will explore Vanessa’s poetry, creative practice and her work in Quebec City, a fellow UNESCO City of Literature.
