Roll up roll up, for a Nottingham Poetry get together!

Saturday and Sunday on both weekends will feature poetry submitted by an array of the fabulous poets based in Nottingham.. and occasionally beyond.

This Saturday features…

Arun Jeetoo

Arun is a poet and educator from Enfield, North London. He is a wanderer and a compassionate soul, known for his dirty realism style, provocative imagery, and dark humour. His work appears in The London Reader and LUMIN Journal amongst numerous print and online magazines across the world. His poetry received second place in the John Hopkins Prize (2016) and was shortlisted for the Erbacce Prize (2020). His debut pamphlet I Want to Be the One You Think About at Night published from Waterloo Press is on sale right now. He tweets @G2poetry and Instagrams @g2poetry.

Martin Grey

Martin has been kicking about the Nottingham poetry scene for a good seven and a half years. Now he’s deluded himself into thinking he’s memorable enough to do a half hour set of people’s requests. The idiot. He invites you to this thinly veiled excuse to plug his new book, by requesting that poem of his you thought was alright and then popping along for the shenanigans.

Finlay Shaun Thorpe

Finlay Shaun Thorpe is a spoken word poet who channels his loquaciousness and love of wordplay to explore a myriad of topics and social issues from the ridiculous to the sublime, and everything in between. A semi-finalist in PHLEXX poetry slam 2017 and Nottingham poetry festival Slam-O-Vision 2019 he can also be found working as a community mentor and delivering Empleo’s Brilliant Books project in local schools helping children engage with story telling and produce anthologies of short stories and poetry. He is available for weddings, bar mitzvah’s and funerals.

City Arts and Panya Banjoko.

Panya Banjoko is a writer, poet, PhD Researcher at Nottingham Trent University and founder of Nottingham Black Archive, Panya’s work with the Nottingham creative hub City Arts is pretty marvellous and this segment includes a shadow puppet performance of ‘One of a Kind’. In 2017 this poem was commended in the Writing East Midlands Aurora poetry competition, the wonderful footage is filmed & edited by Tim Chesney.

Also, the rather magnificent ‘A Pause – a lockdown poem for Nottingham’. Panya based the poem on contributions from ninety-three Nottingham residents, capturing the feelings when the world, paused.

Claire Finn

Claire’s poem “Living Ghost” touches on what it means to exist in a world that isolates us from human nature. Who we are and what is real. Claire Finn is a professional actor who has an array of experience working in theatre, radio & television. Her credits include ‘Inside Holloway,’ as Edith Thompson (Channel five), ‘Criminal histories’ as Margaret Flower (BBC East Midlands) Southwark Playhouse, Mansfield Palace Theatre and the National civil war centre. She continues to write and perform in Nottingham.

Jo Weston

Based in Nottingham, England, Jo is a writer of poetry, short fiction and travel memoir and here will read three poems for your to enjoy.

Thomas Daniel Ince

Thomas Daniel Ince is a twenty five year old poet based in Nottinghamshire. All four poems in this recording were written during lockdown, his poetry is inspired by his diary entries. He feels an innate feeling to write as a form of expression and is inspired by a range of interests from family life, to the esoteric and matters of the heart.

Laura Grevel

Laura Grevel is a lively, spoken word poet whose performances take you on a wild tromp to faraway lands and visions: Mexico, women’s dreams, blue hair, this bucking world, jello recipes, and foreign words that make you laugh and tug at your heart.
