Join us to experience recording artist, reggae poet and activist Linton Kwesi Johnson. Born in 1952 in Clarendon, Jamaica, Linton came to London in 1963 and went to Tulse Hill secondary school, joining the Black Panthers whilst there. This prolific artist was the first Black poet to be included in Penguin’s Modern Classics and is renowned for his published works including Voices of the Living and the Dead and Time Come. Support comes from UK-based poet, cultural historian and founder of Nottingham Black Archive, Panya Banjoko. Panya received a Doctorate from Nottingham Trent University in 2022 and declined the MBE for her work as a poet in the same year. As well as Panya, we are treated to Angolan-Portuguese poet, founder of Fluent in Both and GOBS Collective member Hilário Alves, who candidly explores the complexities of his identity as a Black immigrant while delving into the realms of male sensibility and love.
