Poetry as Alchemy: the extended metaphor with Dr Jack McGowan

Jack McGowan is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Worcester, and joint Head of the Department of English, Media and Culture. He has been a practicing spoken word poet for over a decade and has performed his work at literary events and festivals across the UK. His writing, both critical and creative, has been published in a number of academic journals, anthologies, and online publications.
While alchemists turned lead to gold, poetry can make much more valuable transformations happen. This interactive writing workshop will explore using the extended metaphor in our poetry to change perceptions, challenge assumptions and transform the way we look at the world.
