Queer Nature Poetry Workshop

Water is a fluid body. Many mammals exhibit bisexual behaviour. Onions, potatoes and strawberries all reproduce asexually. There are around 300,000 genders of fungi.

Through a series of writing exercises and group discussions of poems, learn tools and techniques to help you re-see the natural world through a queer lens, generate new queer eco-poems and explore the queerness of nature in your poetry.

The workshop is led by James McDermott whose latest collection ‘Wild Life’ (Nine Arches Press) explores the nature of queerness, queerness of nature and queerness of ‘natural’ masculinity. His other poetry books include ‘Manatomy’ (Burning Eye Books; longlisted for Polari’s First Book Prize) and ‘Erased’ (Polari Press). James’s plays published by Samuel French include ‘Jab’, ‘Time & Tide’ and ‘Rubber Ring’. James lectures in creative writing at the University of East Anglia.
